The original house, built in 1924, was rather small (approximately 1,000 sq. ft.) and had been extended in 1965 and 1970 with flat roof extensions. These were not only out of character with the original property but were also poorly insulated. The design provides an

additional bedroom at first floor and relocates the bathroom which was undersized, by building over one of the ground floor extensions. A pitched roof is provided over the kitchen extension, the roof space thereby created providing valuable storage space.

Traditional vertical sliding sash windows are used with pebble dash finish to external walls to match the original house.

The owners stayed in residence during the construction works, which took approximately three months to complete.
